80年代中期，鄉村歌壇以更有活力、更具創意的表現，來和比較主流、比較商業的搖滾或「重金屬」一別苗頭，開創了比較具個人色彩的「改進派」鄉村歌曲。他們的音樂經常刻意避免任何的修飾，經常以西班牙語演唱，大量的運用手風琴營造出拉丁的風情，作品風格變化多端。
